FTP accounts - manage and login

FTP is shortcut for File Transfer Protocol, that is used to transfer data and is often used for uploading content of web presentation on hosting server.  

Login information to FTP is send within 30 minutes from virtual server creation on your contact e-mail address of your customer account. 
 

Login to FTP server

After virtual server creation you'll obtain on your contact e-mail address FTP login information. If you don't know your user name and password, set up a new password in control panel. 

Lower in this article we describe logging in and upload of data using our web administration. Web can be also uploaded with common FTP client program (for example Total Commander, FileZilla etc.).

  1. On address webftp.active24.com you can find easily manageable web FTP Manager.
  2. Into field FTP Host fill out domain (if the domain is not directed on hosting at our company, fill out alternative address of virtual server)
  3. Username field is used for name of FTP account, as the last detail fill out password - it can be changed anytime.
  4. Before logging in don't forget to choose your preferred language of website administration.
     

Detailed walk through:

  1. On address webftp.active24.com you can find out easily manageable web FTP Manager. To log in you need to know domain, for which the hosting is created for, username and password for FTP.

  3. To field FTP Host fill out Host(1), it means the domain (if the domain is not directed on hosting at our company, fill out alternative address of virtual server).
    Username(2)field is used for Login, which is the same as the name of FTP account, as the last detail fill out password(3).
    Before logging in don't forget to choose your preferred language of website administration. 
  4. As soon as you log in you can upload files from your own PC on server. Data for web presentation is necessary to upload to file /www/

Changing the password

Passwords to FTP accounts are encrypted, so the ones in use cannot be shown. New password for Linux servers can be simply set up from control panel, for Windows servers we will gladly change for you, you just have to send us authorized request

  1. Log in to Control panel.
  2. Choose hosting, on which you want to change the password (Services/Servers and hosting/ Server overview).
  3. In Details of server click on FTP accounts button change password. Password can be changed for one FTP account at time.
  4. Fill out new password and confirm change by clicking on button Set.

Detailed walk through:

  1. Using your login information sign in to Control panel. Or you can ask for new password.
  2. After you are logged in, choose virtual server, where you want the FTP password change. (Services/Servers and hosting/ Server overview).
  3. In Details of server click in category FTP accounts on button change password. On the picture you can see the change is made for account ftpc1, name of the account is also the login for FTP. 
  4. Fill out New password (1), or use option to Generate(2). Change of password needs to be confirmed by clicking on button Set(3).
  5. With new password you can immediately log in to FTP.
     
    TIP: If the domain is not directed at hosting at our company, you can use for accessing FTP alternative address. That is working at our domain active24.cz, it begins with name of the hosting and continues with the name of shared server. On the picture up you can see, that for our walk through we used alternative address domain.xy.uvirt57.active24.cz.

 

How to create new FTP account?

If you want to give access to another person into separate folder in Linux server, you can easily create separate FTP account from control panel. For Windows servers we will gladly create them for you, you just have to send us authorized request

At separate FTP accounts on Linux you can't restrict rights to write or just to read the data. At Windows servers this option exists, you just have to inform us in your request for creation of FTP account.

  1. Log in to Control panel.
  2. Choose hosting, on which you wish to add new FTP account (Services/Servers and hosting/ Server overview)
  3. In Details of server click in category FTP accounts on button Add.
  4. At new account you can define the directory, to which the user can log in (directory has to be created).
  5. After account creation the settings overview will be shown.

Detailed walk through:

  1. Using your login information log in to Control panel. Or you can ask for new password.
  2. After you are logged in, choose virtual server on which you wish to create the FTP account. (Services/Servers and hosting/ Server overview).
  3. In Details of server click in category  FTP accounts on button Add.
  4. At new account you can, except of your own password, also define the folder, to which the user can log into. User can't visit folders in hierarchy above or even parallel - for example the user can't write directly to folder /www/ (folder has to be already created). By button Create account the separate FTP account will be created immediately and the settings overview will be shown.

 

Changing the directory of separate FTP account

At already added accounts you can change the destination directory. By changing the directory the user name neither the password is changed. At the main account you can't change the directory, it always have access to the whole virtual server.

  1. Log in to Control panel.
  2. Choose hosting on which you wish to change the FTP account (Services/Servers and hosting/ Server overview)
  3. In Details of server click in category  FTP accounts on button directory.
  4. Then you can define another directory, to which the user will log in (directory has to be already created).
     

Detailed walk through:

  1. Using your login information log in to Control panel. Or you can ask for new password.
  2. Choose hosting on which you wish to change the FTP account (Services/Servers and hosting/ Server overview).
  3. In Details of server click in category FTP accounts on button directory.
  4. Fill out the way to your recently created directory and click on button Set.
  5. If you chose existing directory and the name of the folder was written correctly including small and capital letters the account is immediately prepared for logging.
     


Access restriction

Unique security option is to restrict access to FTP account from specific country or from IP addresses. By setting this restriction you can ensure, that the data on the server are safe from anyone else even, when the password is stolen.

Access restriction can be set only on Linux servers.

Notice: Restriction is valid only for FTP , it doesn't affect the option to show website.
  1. Log in to Control panel.
  2. Choose hosting on which you wish to change the FTP account (Services/Servers and hosting/ Server overview).  
  3. In  Details of server click in category   FTP accounts on button access restriction.
  4. Click on option own settings, then you can restrict access to FTP depending on country or IP address.
  5. If you try to login from address, which is not allowed, the error 530 Login incorrect will be shown, the same error as if you use incorrect password and user name.

  2. Choose hosting on which you wish to change the FTP account (Services/Servers and hosting/ Server overview).  
  3. In Details of server click in category  FTP accounts on access restriction button.
  4. In the main menu you see quick options, if you want to set specific country, or IP address, choose own settings(1) and click on button Set(2). 
     
    - Only from EU addresses (recommended setting) - allows access to FTP only from IP addresses of EU countries. 
    - Allow from all addresses can lead to unauthorized interference with websites and misuse for illegal activities.
    - Forbid completely restrict access to chosen account. 
    - Own settings allows separate restrictions on any combination of states and IP addresses.
    - Setting from the main account is only on other FTP accounts, they take the restriction settings from the main FTP account.
  5. Restriction can be set for specific countries(3), or quickly add current IP address(4). Of course you can allow any IP address(5) and for better overview write a Note(6). Allowed IP address has to be saved(7)
    Tip: When setting up the IP address it's possible to insert the whole structure of IP (CIDR) for example 192.168.0.0/16
  6. When you are satisfied with your setting, you don't have to confirm anything, it's possible to move to another section of control panel, or log out
