VPS - connection and management

Virtual private servers (VPS) are intended for customers who want a server in their own administration but do not need the resources of their own physical server. Typically, they are suitable for running services and applications that require uninterrupted access to the Internet with their own IP address, but do not require user login directly to the server as Application servers

If you need a dedicated virtual server, but prefer to keep it on experienced ACTIVE 24 administrators, take advantage of VMS (Virtual Managed Servers).

VPS servers will be received to a customer with a pre-installed operating system you can choose in the order. Windows is available and many Linux distributions are available. The installed system typically contains only a minimum of pre-installed software, and the customer needs to be self-help.

NOTE: It is imperative that the customer himself ensures that the server is properly secured against abuse, because there are robotic attacks on the Internet that are able to access the server within a few hours. We recommend that you use a strong password and secure firewall access to specific IP addresses.

Licence terms of VPS usage

Operation of service Virtual private server (VPS) are governed in addition to standard terms and conditions ACTIVE 24, s.r.o. (as a provider) by these rules:

  1. Provider of service is responsible for functioning of VPS and its connectivity. Provider guarantees OS or VPS applications, which are contained in the VPS service. It does not waive the VPS content for proper licensing of a client operating system or a customer-operated application. If the customer will damage the operating system by its own interference, he can reinstall VPS using Customer center, the provider is not responsible for their proper operation and does not monitor it.
  2. The provider makes regular backups of VPS servers, but can not guarantee the consistency of such data. In particular, backups of databases and other binary stored data may not be consistent. If a customer considers data on their server to be important, they will ensure their own proper and regular backups
  3. The customer is required to secure his VPS against third party abuse. Above all, administrator access to the server must be protected by a strong password (or key) and ideally also a with firewall with a limit on the source IP address. In the event of a third party's misuse of the site (typically spam, phishing, botnets, attacks, etc.), the customer is required to co-operate immediately to stop such server activity or to remove any malicious content. In this case, the Provider is entitled to restrict the service provided (eg by blocking the selected network traffic from the server or by interfering with the server content). If the customer does not immediately co-operate to remedy the problem, the operator may suspend the operation of the entire VPS.
  4. The provider performs servicing on physical servers preferably to ensure continuous VPS operation. If this procedure can not be followed or is ineffective, the VPS provider may sleep and then wake up or restart. However, such interventions are always planned to be "off-peak" (typically at night) and, if not announced in advance, do not exceed 30 minutes. For these reasons, the customer will set the running applications on the server so that after a possible restart they can run themselves without problems.

Specifications of VPS Linux

Virtual private servers on Linux use OpenVZ virtualization and their properties are the result:

There is a wide range of templates to install the basic distribution. You have the choice of the main ones in order. If you do not choose from these officially offered templates, it is possible to arrange a one-time installation from any other working template.

The core of the operating system is common to all VPSs. This has the advantage that you do not have to worry about updating - this concern remains with ACTIVE Administrators 24. The downside is that you can not modify it and some kernel functions can be limited within VPS (eg iptables are limited to basic functions ). When updating the kernel, it is of course necessary to restart the physical server. In this case, VPS servers are either migrated to another physical server or running at night and re-awake when we restart, so their last status and uptime are maintained. However, we recommend that the services on VPS be set up so that after the restart of the server they will start up properly because there may be an extraordinary situation when the VPS servers will actually be restarted

VPS can run OpenVPN or IPSEC in NETKEY mode. KLIPS mode is not supported. VPN deployment may require additional configuration of your VPS server, so please contact our customer support.

In addition to the amount of memory, computing performance, and disk space, virtualization addresses a number of other parameters that are not directly selectable in the order. Here are the main ones as we set them according to each model:

                                Standard         Profi	        Premium
Number of files: 300.000 600.000 1.200.000
Simultaneous running processes:	300	             600	        1200
